Baroness Ariel used to teach a class on saying “NO.” I really need to take it for work. They are “orienting” me to other departments around the hospital. The good thing about this hospital is they really try to orient you to other departments before just pulling you. The bad thing is they are trying to finish my orientation to other floors in a hurry. My usual quip when I go in is “Where am I being farmed out to today?” I really am tired of it although I try not to show it. In the last 7 work days I have started out in my department 1 day. I have ended up in my department 2 days. Hour wise I’ve spent more hours actually working 4 East.
Work Day 1-ER for orientation, but pulled to really work 4 East after 4 hours
Work Day 2-6 East for orientation
7 days off
Work Day 3-CVICU for orientation, but pulled back to ICU after 2 hours
Work Day 4-ICU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Work Day 5-ER for orientation
1 day off
Work Day 6-pulled to really work 4 West
Work Day 7-5 East for orientation for about 30 min, then really pulled to work 4 East
Tonight will be Day 8. I’m really wishing I could spend a day in my home department, but to be honest last night they gave me the choice of going back to ICU and pulling someone else or going to 4 East myself. I was too nice and took the pull. I’ve decided that tonight, I’m making someone else take it if that comes up. I should be the LAST person on the pull. I’ll keep my mouth shut about an orientation pull, but actual working pull I will fuss about. LOUDLY.
