Scene: Cardiac Interventional Progressive Care Unit
My patient was a “Walkie-Talkie” on the monitor. Late at night most of the nurses was at the Nurse’s Station charting & watching the cardiac monitor. My patient had a run of VTach which looked real on the monitor. I checked on my patient who had been asleep, was fine & didn’t feel a thing. I came back into the Nurse’s Station and commented that the patient said he was okay. One of the male LPN’s piped up and said, “I bet he was just jerking off.” So the female LPN turned around and said, “Do you have VTach when you do that? Can we put a 24 hour Holter monitor on you?”
We still occasionally ask the male LPN about having VTach.
