What can I say? I left Livejournal for this and I’d had my LJ account there since May 2002 (which is a long time in web terms). Granted LJ has gone through lots of changes since then, but I downloaded my whole history from LJ and took it with me. (see my first LJ post now in it’s new location) Why? Some of it has to do with the recent sale and changes of LJ policy. Before my paid account ended and I left, I did make a syndication feed for my new blog (tatianamik). But I lost my comments people had made on entries. 🙁 Oh, well. Guess I can’t have everything. Granted I still have my LJ account, but I mainly use it to comment on other’s blogs that are still on LJ or to participate in communities.
1. Supports Open ID
2. Akismet comment spam blocking
3. WordPress is easily customizable (self-hosted WordPress more so than WordPress.com)
4. You don’t have to recompile the freaking blog every time you post an article. That was one of my main complaints about Blogger.
5. Schedule a future post. LJ would show a post if you tried to schedule it in the future. WordPress doesn’t show it until the date/time you timestamp it for.
6. FREE unless you want upgrades like more storage space or custom CSS.
7. Mobile site to post from for WordPress.com. Doesn’t have an iPhone specific interface, but this one works well.
8. Blog stats on your Dashboard. You know I love stats.
