I got pulled tonight to ICU step down to work. This floor is also known as SubAcute. It is a very sought after floor. But it takes them 12 hours to move a patient to a lower level of care after they get the room assignment. They get pissy if the ICU has not moved a patient in 30 minutes. Nursing can be the best or worst decision of your life. What other profession can you go from caring for critically ill adults to giving preventive vaccinations to kids without major retraining. Which can be really cool. I want to certify as a critical care nurse. You have to work at least 2 years in critical care. You have to have a minimum number of hours you have to work at the bedside. And you have to work a certain number of hours to maintain your certification.
