Lethann, Erroch & demonasolace dropped me off at the airport at 6:45 am and the adventure started. I was on my way to the Bahamas. This was the first time I have gone out of the country. Quutar gave me an order than I have to take at least 7 photos an hour. I did the calculations that is 861 photos. I think maybe I can manage to get close.
The plane flight was fine. When we landed at the airport it was HOT. They barely had the air conditioner on. I was sweating.
The residents have very laid back attitudes. The airport didn’t have our flight listed on the overhead screen at the baggage claim. The AC vent was leaking water near the baggage claim.
The streets have British style round abouts rather than stop signs. They drive on the left side of the road. However vehicles are a hodge podge mixture of American style with the steering wheel on the left and British style with the steering wheel on the right.
Voting was happening today. We went right past the voting place. People were milling about being social and basically having a party in line. We ran past it again around midnight. People were still milling about even though the location was closed.
We went out to the lagoon pool bar to eat. It started raining hard and blowing inside the pavillion. So we had to head downstairs to the under the lagoon aquarium. That was cool, but we still had to make a run for the hotel. We got soaked. After that I went to bed for a nap. Woke up around 9 pm.
Anetha took us out to the Bamboo Shack for actual local cuisine. Bamboo Shack is a roadside walk up and order building and it was still hopping at 11 pm. Guys standing around being social. Cars pulling up and placing orders. People talking to each other. I had conch. It was good. It was wrapped up in a brown paper bag. Came with fries. I also had a bite of someone else’s chicken. It was good too. They were serving lobster, but I didn’t get to try any. They did give me a Switcha to drink. It’s like lemonade, but it is limes. It tastes like a little watered down and sweet. It’s using natural cane sugar as a sweetener. We had to get the granny something from Wendy’s.
Bars are on a lot of the windows. Even at Wendy’s, but I don’t feel unsafe. I guess with the hurricanes it’s cheaper than replacing an electronic lock system after every hurricane because it got wet.
American cash and Bahamian cash is interchangeable here. You get change back in a mix. And people do want American money because they will go into Miami or somewhere in the states for shopping.
My cell phone states data is $19.95/MB on it. Ouch. Calls are $1.47/min. I have no clue about the cost of text messages. No net access working in the rooms. Lamp has ports, but they don’t work. So no skype to call folks. I may buy a few hours wifi in the lobby so I can port out pictures and a few posts on my blog or twitter, but I will be making use of purchased WiFi if I do do it.

Got up at like 6 am. Couldn’t sleep. Wandered around the resort and the beach. Lots of photos. Predator lagoon. The beach. I’m working on uploading them to flickr. But the WiFi is very slow. I get a little frustrated with it. Happy though I didn’t bring my MBP as I wouldn’t be able to do much more than I am on my eeePC. Jeri keeps trying to permanently take away my Kindle. She loves the fact that it will read to her.
