Getting organized. Yeah that’s one of the things I always say I’m going to try but rarely manage to do. So I’m going to say some things about the services I use to try to keep me organized.
Remember the Milk

A flexible to do list. I have to watch it or I will create too many separate lists and then I can’t remember when what is due if I don’t remember to look at the overview. You can put due dates or locations and sort by either. I used it a lot this summer when I was working with education. I can also send it a to do item from Twitter if I don’t have email open. Or I can use Jott (see below) to phone in an item.
One thing I’d like to see added: a setting so you could mark it as due after another task. I find myself recently need to have a paper be signed and then be faxed. I’d like to mark them as the faxing task being due after the signing task. Sigh! Oh, well.
I Want Sandy

I got Lethann started on this one this weekend. And I really think Heather and possibly Sarah could benefit from it as well. I introduced Sandy to them, but I have no idea if they joined or not. I think it could possibly work well for Heather if she did Jott (see below) and SMS reminders from Sandy. I send stuff to “Sandy” in plain English (via Jott, email or Twitter) and she schedules it on my calendar. I have been printing out my weekly schedule and tape-ing it on a sheet inside my moleskin notebook. I mark through completed items and as too many get done to read clearly, I print out a new page and paste it on a new page. I tend to email or call Jott a new item as soon as I think of it so that it gets on the list immediately. The last few days this has seemed to be the most flexible method of me keeping a calendar. I can call Jott and say “Remind me Change oil in car on Tuesday” when I think of it and then it crosses over to Sandy and it’s on my list for the next time I print it out. That way I don’t have to remember to add it to the list. I also get a daily digest via email to remind myself of what all is going on that day.
But it’s not just appointments. I can say “Remember John Smith, 202-555-1111, jsmith@example.com” and Sandy will remember the contact info. I can always email Sandy “Lookup John Smith” and she will look up John Smith in everything in my entries and mail them right back to me. Sandy also emails back formatted Cal files and vCard files that can be handled by Outlook or by Mac’s iCal or Address Book. This is handy cause you don’t have to enter the format “Just so” into the files. And I can just throw the files in my iCal and Address Book and it syncs with my phone automatically.
Jott

Call from your phone and remind yourself of stuff or to add to Sandy or Remember the Milk or send a short email to a contact. I use this to avoid typing while I’m driving. I have my headset on. You dial. The service picks up.
Jott: “Who do you want to Jott?”
Me: “Sandy” (or “Remember the Milk”)
Jott: “Sandy, Is this correct?”
Me: “Yes.”
Beep….
Me: “Remind me Meeting with John at 5 pm”
Beep…..
Jott transcribes the message and forwards it to Sandy (or Remember the Milk if you decided to use that one). Sandy messages you at the appropriate time.
Google Calendar

I’ve gotta “plug ins” that allow me to see what I’ve got on Sandy & RTM in my Google Calendar. I’ve also got shared calendars there. Like the one for SL Fashion Notes (although I’ve been neglecting it recently). Also I can subscribe to things such as Second Style’s calendar. Debra & Laura can see mine, I can see their calendar. It makes scheduling some easier.
What is your thoughts on them????????? Anything else that works better for you?
