Drunk ramblings

Posted on January 18, 2007 by agd.tanya

Apparently I’m still drunk from the Phenergan they have me IV yesterday. Things are still spinning.
So I went to the doc yesterday. Didn’t see my regular doc, but did see the one who used to be director of the hospitialists at my hospital. They wanted blood to make sure the epigastric pain I was haven’t wasn’t my gall bladder or pancreas. Didn’t have positive orthostatic vital signs. But when they tried to stick me to get blood they barely got any despite sticking me 3 times. Doc then decided if they couldn’t get blood I needed an IV and IV fluids. So 2 more sticks to get the IV in. Oh yeah, I was being stuck by a paramedic that works in the office. Usually paramedics can hit a moving target. While he was trying to get it and striking out, the doc walks in and he asks if she wants to try. I go “are you crazy?” The doc just laughed. She said “She’s a nurse, she knows you don’t ask a doctor to put in an IV unless it’s a triple lumen.” (the exception to the rule however is anesthsiologists.) So I got a bag of IV fluids and a total of 25 mg of IV phenergen.
I was drunk. had to come take me home.
My potassium was 3.3 (normal 3.5-5.0) so they wanted to give me some potassium pills. The girl who came in had already broken the huge pills in half. So I swallow the first one and the broken side scrapped by tonsils. I told her she should have left them whole. So I try to take another half. It got hung. I thought I was going to puke. I coughed it up on the floor and barely avoided puking. So I got a second half pill to go down and she gave me another whole pill to swallow which went down much smoother.
But at least I avoided a hospital admission. I’m drinking lime raspberry Fruit Squeeze by Tropicana. It’s slightly flavored water with real sugar, not that artificial sweetener that makes me sick.
