Tennessee is really a state of music. In East TN you still have the folk music, Middle TN has the Nashville country & western sound, and West TN has rockabilly & the blues.
I was browsing iTunes Essentials and found one for Memphis. Well a song listed was “Walking the Dog” by Rufus Thomas. This also set off some memories. I got to meet Rufus while I lived in Memphis and worked on the Health ABC study at UT Memphis. He was a celebrity sponsor of the study. He was at a reception we held for the participants in Year 3 or 4. I didn’t join the study until Year 2 so I missed meeting him at the initial recruiting push in Year 1. I remember him being sharply and colorfully dressed. (I think it was a purple suit, but don’t really remember the color clearly.)
I can also remember I was walking down the street to get something for lunch with Rufus’s funeral motorcade came through. I remember seeing the WDIA radio car in the motocade.
I can also say the Elvis, Issac Hays, & B.B. King only had 1 song each in the “Basics” selection. I say this because if you live in Memphis you are barraged with Elvis, Issac Hays & B.B. King music. To the point you may learn to hate them.
They need a Nashville one. Hey they have Minneapolis, so they need to add Nashville.
