Last night I was on the staffing map to stay in ICU even though I was over my 24 guaranteed hours. I was happy. As I was getting ready for work the phone rang. It was the Float Charge Nurse. They were staffed and I had 2 choices, canceled or pulled. Well I need the money so I chose pulled. I got to work and discovered that I had not yet been assigned. So they told me to just page the nursing office and ask. So I did. The guy who was on duty was just a prick. But I did get reassigned…to 4 North . I hate this floor on nights. It is a decent floor during the day, but nights are rough. It is the people who work nights are real witches. But tonight I am working with 3 individuals who rarely works nights on this floor. One is from another floor, one is temporary staffing, and the charge nurse usually works days. So it is a little better tonight. But this is a floor that chroniclly understaffs on nights. I certainly do not want to work the floors when I get out of school. Thirteen patients per nurse is too many.
